Journey's End Update 3!


ESC key takes you to the MAIN MENU, 

W, A, S, D controls character movement, 

SPACEBAR to jump, and 

MOUSE to move view.

For this new update I have added sound to almost every actor and a few levels using the Unreal Engine 5 program. The sounds I personally designed are the Hinge sounds of each door opening/closing, the locked handle sound when the doors are locked, and the key noise that is made when the player picks up a key. In order to get the sound to function properly I had to add nodes in each actor. The pictures above show where I placed the nodes: Play Sound at Location, Get World Location, and get the Default Scene Root. This allowed me to set more than a few sounds in one actor.

The reason I designed the sounds in each level is to give the player a sense of adventure, excitement, and danger. The locked door sounds give a sense of excitement/danger and provokes a response from the player to find the key. I have given clues above the doors so that the player has a chance at finding the keys. The hinge sound gives the play a sense of fear and the background music helps to enforce that fact, especially down the hallway of lava. The lava sound has a hot bubble sound that tells the player it is dangerous and to avoid. If you do touch the lava, you will die and respawn at the beginning with another "Game Over" sound. The checkpoint has a sound of achievement of getting to the halfway point. By the end, you are greeted with a chest. The chest has a victory sound once you find the key and open it. This sound is to congratulate the player for getting to this point at the end of this level. Also, throughout the level there are three different background noises that transition from one to another while entering different rooms. I hope that you enjoy this update because I had a blast making it.
